Last week I attended Grace Hopper Celebration of Computing conference in Houston, TX, and at one of the keynotes Ginni Rometty, the CEO of IBM said something that touched my soul. “Don’t let anyone define you.” Ginni talked about her family, and how in the 60th her father left her mother and four siblings. But despite the challenges, her mother received an education – she attended school while her children were at school, and worked in the evenings to make ends meet. And above all, she never let her circumstances define her. She wanted a better life, and she strove for it.
What does it mean to let others define you? And what can you do about it?
